The Reproduction Staunton Ebony Chessmen 1890 Model are a highly detailed and superbly finished chessmen. The King is an imposing 8.9cm with a beautifully carved knight and bishop. Supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world's finest chessmen, these chessmen have been turned from solid wood then painstakingly carved with exquisite detailing.
These reproduction pieces also bear the original markings of the kings crown on 1 black knight, 1 black rook, 1 white knight and 1 white rook and these pieces will sit on the Kings flank. This was a practical innovation to identify their position on the King's side of the board. This is because, in descriptive chess notation, the rooks and knights were often referred to as being the queens knight, or the king's rook.
