In 2008 when the Regency Chess Company was born, the owner and founder, Julian Deverell, travelled to see some of the world's finest producers of chess pieces and chess boards. The initial focus was on the procurement of wooden sets.
Rather than simply selling ready-made chess sets, we began selecting the best pieces from one producer and the best boards from another, combining them to create unique, well-matched full sets.

We source the best boards and pieces and combine them into complete sets. In some cases we also include piece cases and clocks. This takes the guesswork out of creating the ideal set.
When we began in 2008 most retailers sold pieces and boards separately, expecting customers to match them. We were one of the first to provide ready-matched sets.
We sell a large variety of wooden chess sets, and the most common design is the classic Staunton style. This design became standard in the mid-1800s and remains essential for serious play. Our sets pair these pieces with appropriately sized boards.
