Boasting an imperious King of 8.9cm along with beautifully carved knights and bishops, the Reproduction Staunton Ebony Chessmen 1890 Model are supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world's finest chessmen.
Turned from solid wood then painstakingly carved with exquisite detailing, not only are these reproduction pieces the classic Staunton design, but they also bear the original markings of the kings crown on 1 black knight, 1 black rook, 1 white knight and 1 white rook. This was a practical innovation to identify their position on the King's side of the board. This is because, in descriptive chess notation, the rooks and knights were often referred to as being the 'queens knight, or the 'king's rook'.
The stunning 55cm Walnut and Maple board with its 5.5cm squares makes it the perfect fit for these lovely pieces and the quality veneers create a classically traditional chess set to grace any home.
To complete the ensemble, we have matched the set with a beautifully handcrafted sheesham chess piece case to house and protect the pieces when not in play. An ideal gift perhaps ... or maybe keep it for yourself.
