A deluxe Staunton chess set featuring large, handcrafted ebony and boxwood Rochester pieces paired with a stunning extra-large walnut and maple Spanish chessboard.

Created by our skilled craftsmen, the Rochester Ebony chessmen are, without doubt, of deluxe quality, large, elegant and exquisitely finished in ebony and graded boxwood. These chessmen start life as a solid block of wood, which is then painstakingly and expertly crafted into an individual work of art. Each carved figure is well balanced and weighted and polished to a very high sheen without the use of artificial waxes or lacquers.

These outstanding chess pieces deserve nothing less than an equally outstanding chessboard, and it is difficult not to be impressed by this extra-large chessboard produced by maker Rechapados Ferrer of Spain. High-grade walnut and maple veneered construction is used throughout. Modern fabrication techniques are utilised to provide a truly impressive chessboard with clean lines and critical detailing.

The walnut used has stunning colouring with dense grain, abundant in dark, rich tones. The rich browns, reds and yellows of the walnut really complement the black ebony and yellow boxwood chessmen creating a very traditional looking chess set.
