For a slightly larger set of pieces, the Abingdon ebonised chessmen are expertly crafted with beautiful detail following the classic Staunton design. With its 8.9cm king, these pieces are superbly finished and perfectly weighted for their size.

They boast beautiful carvings, especially on the knight, as they are supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world's finest handcrafted chessmen. To create the look of ebony, boxwood pieces are put through a chemical process of ebonization. The results are a very effective ebony look, but not the price tag.

With this size of king and the broad felted bases, these chessmen will sit perfectly on boards from 45 to 50cm.
