With our Contemporary Series, we've focused on stripping back the details to create bold and confident chess pieces that still embody the ancient traditions of the game. The king, donning a small yet imposing crown, serves as the perfect example of this design philosophy. Our skilled craftsmen hand polish the ebonized boxwood on the darker pieces for a sharp finish, while the lighter pieces are carefully carved from graded boxwood. These pieces, sitting on protective felt-covered bases, are ideal for use on chess boards of 18 inches (45 cm) or larger. The king, measuring 3.75 inches (95 mm), has a base of 1.3 inches (34 mm).
