Based on the traditional Staunton design, the 1853 Paulsen Reproduction pieces are handcrafted from solid ebony and boxwood. They are painstakingly carved and finished to perfection and the bases (quite broad for this height) are then covered with billiard cloth so that your board will not be damage during battle. The 1853 Paulsen Reproduction chess men have a 3.5 king and have been named after
Louis Paulsen (Jan 1833 to August 1891) who, during the 1860 and 1870's, was among the top five players in the world.
To accommodate these historic pieces, we have matched them with a beautiful 55.12 cm board from Spain. The high grade montgoy palisander and maple veneers create a beautiful playing field for The Paulsen pieces and, with its 5.51 cm playing squares, accommodates the pieces perfectly.

Manopoulos of Greece, renowned for their skill and expertise in this field. The box features a large compartment and with the brass colour hinges and clasps, this case is a timeless classic.
